On 15 August 2024 Dutch Embassy will commemorate the cessation* of the Second World War in Asia in Semarang, Surabaya, and Jakarta.

COMMEMORATION
On Thursday 15 August 2024 we will commemorate the cessation* of the Second World War in Asia in:
1. Semarang
The
Netherlands War Cemetery Ereveld Candi
Wreath
laying ceremony 7:00-7:25 AM
Netherlands Defence Attaché Col.
Norbert Moerkens, will attend a wreath laying ceremony open to the public.**
The
Netherlands War Cemetery Ereveld Kalibanteng
Ceremony 8:30-10:00 AM (welcome at 8:00 AM, please park at Museum
Ranggawarsita)
In front of the Vrouwenmonument a ceremony
will take place with speeches and a performance of students
International Relations of Universitas Diponegoro. The program is
concluded with a wreath laying ceremony at the
Vrouwenmonument.
2. Surabaya
The
Netherlands War Cemetery Ereveld Kembang Kuning
Ceremony 9:00-10:00 AM (gathering at the Pendopo at 8:30
AM).
Honorary Consul Ms. Lily Jessica Tjokrosetio welcomes the
public for a commemoration and wreath laying ceremony. Wreaths will be
laid, amongst others, on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the
Netherlands Foundation “National Remembrance 15 August 1945”,
Internationale Indische Club Surabaya and de Indo Club Soerabaya. The
commemoration and wreath laying ceremony will take place at the
Karel Doorman Monument.
3. Jakarta
The
Netherlands War Cemetery Ereveld Menteng Pulo
Ceremony 5:00-6:00 PM (welcome at 4:30 PM).
The commemoration
will start in the Simultaankerk with speeches from the
Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Netherlands Defence
Attaché and the ETC Social Club. The program concludes with a wreath
laying ceremony at the Vlaggenmonument. This year a special
melati flower wreath made of a 1000 handmade melati’s by volunteers in
the Netherlands will be laid. (Please note that video recordings will
be made for the broadcasting of the National 15th of August
Commemoration in the Netherlands).

*The formal end of the Second World War was
concluded with the Surrender Ceremony on the USS Missouri on 2
September 1945.
** The Netherlands Embassy yearly rotates its
presence between the Erevelden of Ancol, Pandu, Leuwigajah,
Kalibanteng, Candi and Kembang Kuning.
