He then traveled to the heart of East Jakarta — Malaka Jaya RT 8 — where independence is celebrated not just with flags and fanfare, but with action.

What makes this community extraordinary? The residents of RT 8 have built something remarkable from the ground up:

• Their own fish and poultry farming
• A culture of sustainability that starts at the neighborhood level

This is grassroots leadership in its truest form.

Guided by community leader Pak RT Taufiq Supriadi, Ambassador Marc experienced the celebrations firsthand — joining a lively sembako prize toss competition and presenting a special bonus prize (a classic Dutch stroopwafels) to the winner of the sustainable cooking contest.
