Building Stronger Ties in Dutch-Indonesian Agriculture - Indonesia
Building Stronger Ties in Dutch-Indonesian Agriculture
Dutch Ambassador Marc Gerritsen held important meetings with two key Indonesian ministers in May 2025, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture and economic development.
Building Stronger Ties in Dutch-Indonesian Agriculture
Dutch Ambassador Gerritsen met with Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman to discuss deepening agricultural cooperation through a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The discussions centered on leveraging Dutch expertise and technology, in partnership with Indonesian stakeholders, to enhance efficiency and sustainability in Indonesia's agricultural sector.
Key areas of collaboration identified include sustainable horticulture, nature and biodiversity conservation, and strengthening knowledge infrastructure in the agri-food sectors. The partnership aims to bring innovative Dutch agricultural solutions to address Indonesia's farming challenges while promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
Economic Collaboration and Food Security
In a separate meeting with Chief of the National Economic Council Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Ambassador Gerritsen engaged in broader discussions on economic collaboration between the two countries.
A significant focus of this meeting was the development of sustainable food systems in North Sumatra. The Netherlands expressed keen interest in working closely with Indonesia to advance sustainable horticulture initiatives in the region, which could serve as a model for other areas of the country.
Supporting Indonesia's Food Security Goals
These partnerships are designed to contribute to achieving food security, one of Indonesia's top national priorities. With its growing population and the challenges posed by climate change, Indonesia has identified agricultural innovation and sustainable food production as critical areas for development.
The Netherlands, recognized globally for its advanced agricultural technology and sustainable farming practices, is well-positioned to support Indonesia's efforts in this sector.
Ambassador Gerritsen expressed optimism about the collaborations, stating that these partnerships lay a strong foundation for impactful progress. Both countries look forward to the positive outcomes and shared success that will emerge from this strengthened cooperation.
