Indonesia further strengthens cooperation with the Netherlands on counterterrorism and on preventing and countering violent extremism. In its two-days visit to the Netherlands, the Indonesian BNPT met its Dutch counterpart the NCTV in The Hague.

The two counterterrorism bodies held a bilateral consultation which was part of the implementation of the MoU signed in 2017. BNPT Chief Comr. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar said the two countries shared similar concerns over national, regional, global terrorist threats. Both BNPT and NCTV discussed Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTF), rehabilitation and reintegration efforts, and countering the use of internet for terrorism purposes.

Deputy National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) and Director Cyber Security and State Threats Ambassador Hester Somsen underlined that the consultation was an important step in strengthening cooperation on counterterrorism between the two countries. Similar to BNPT Chief, Ambassador Somsen appreciated the strong and longstanding partnership of NCTV and BNPT. The BNPT visit to the Netherlands was a response to National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg to Indonesia during PM Rutte’s official visit to the country in 2019.
