ALPHAMAMA Brings Musical Rujak to Indonesian Tour

ALPHAMAMA, a musical artist of Indonesian descent, toured Indonesia early this month, bringing a unique musicality that explored themes of self-love, liberation and spiritual awakening.

ALPHAMAMA (Anita Meiruntu) performed with multinational musicians, including musical director Lito Mabjaia on bass, Sophie Anglionin on keyboards and vocals and Lukas Joachim on drums. “My band and I have created a kind of 'musical rujak' that’s sweet, spicy, salty, smooth and crunchy all at the same time. I’ll be singing with my whole heart to bring a sense of connection, healing and liberation,” she said at the start of her tour.

Their concert at Erasmus Huis Jakarta on May 8, 2026, concluded their Indonesian tour, with more than 200 audience members attending. Prior to Jakarta, ALPHAMAMA had performed at the International Jazz Day 2026 in Batam on May 1, 2026 and at Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana Salatiga on May 5, 2026. The crowd was immersed in a musical journey that blended soul, jazz and hip-hop, and even danced to the music towards the end of the concert. Throughout the evening, ALPHAMAMA delivered a powerful narrative centered on women empowerment, the personal search for one’s roots and love as a universal language.

She performed tracks from her latest album, "We Were Here," such as "The Key," "Don't Ever Let Go" and her latest single "I Believe in You," as well as tracks from her earlier records like "HoneyFire" and "Oil and Water." Between songs, Anita shared reflections on her multicultural background and how her artistry is shaped by various cultural influences, including her father’s Minahasan culture.

A highlight of the evening was the collaboration with emerging Indonesian talents from Universitas Pelita Harapan, bringing a fresh energy to the performance. Vocalist Clarissa Natalie Saputra and saxophonist Riki Danni joined the band for a collaboration on "3x11" and "Lady Indonesia." The band also performed a segment where they blended traditional musical sounds with modern instruments, creating beats that invited the audience to dance by the stage.

 

The concert demonstrated not only the beauty of musical diversity but also the power of music when it connects different people. This was truly where experience met emerging talent and where stories resonated across cultures.

Workshop

On May 7, the day before performing at Erasmus Huis, ALPHAMAMA and her band visited Universitas Pelita Harapan / UPH Conservatory of Music to share their musical knowledge and experiences with music students.

Accompanied by Sri Hanuraga, lecturer and Coordinator of Jazz and Pop Performance at UPH Conservatory of Music, ALPHAMAMA had the opportunity to witness the performances of two UPH student jazz groups.

During the workshop, both groups performed their original compositions while ALPHAMAMA shared valuable insights on musicality and stage presence. This workshop provided a platform for musical experience and future talent to meet, inspiring each other across cultures.
