Deputy Ambassador Adriaan Palm officially opened the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Makassar on September 2 — a landmark moment for our bilateral ties. We are proud to welcome Osco Olfriady Letunggamu as Honorary Consul for Sulawesi, and excited to announce a new periodic visa-at-your-doorstep service, enabling Sulawesi residents to apply for Dutch visas locally — no travel to Jakarta, Bali, or Surabaya required. The official opening was celebrated at a dinner reception attended by the Vice Mayor, government officials, consular representatives, private sector partners, and alumni.

High-Level Engagements
We had the privilege of meeting with the Governor of South Sulawesi H.E. Andi Sudirman Sulaiman and the Mayor of Makassar H.E. Munafri Arifuddin to explore expanded cooperation across agriculture, renewable energy, maritime industries, education, culture, and people-to-people connections. 
 
Academic Diplomacy at Universitas Hasanuddin
Adriaan delivered a lecture on "Indonesia, the Netherlands, and the EU: A Stable, Reliable, and Predictable Partnership in Turbulent Times" — sparking rich dialogue with students on the future of our trilateral relations. A productive meeting with the Rector Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa further laid the groundwork for deeper academic and knowledge partnerships.
 
As a gateway to Eastern Indonesia, Makassar is a vital hub — and this visit reaffirmed our commitment to being a reliable, accessible, and engaged partner across the region.
