Financial Support

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Indonesia can offer limited financial support for cultural projects that contribute to our strategic objectives and align with our multi-annual cultural plan (2025–2028).

Guidelines for Applying for Financial Support

The funding budget of the Dutch Embassy is intended for projects that make a significant contribution to the presentation, promotion and visibility of professional art & culture from the Netherlands in Indonesia. To be eligible for funding, a project must contribute meaningfully to cultural cooperation and exchange between Indonesia and the Netherlands and/or strengthen the visibility of Dutch arts and culture in Indonesia. Projects that focus on the shared heritage between Dutch and Indonesian shared heritage can also be funded, provided that the project takes place in Indonesia. Projects should be aligned with at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

1. Purpose of the Funding

  • Encourage meaningful and long-term cultural exchange between the Netherlands and Indonesia;
  • Create opportunities for Dutch artists, creatives and cultural organisations to engage with their Indonesian peers, cultural organisations and audiences;
  • Contribute to sustainable collaboration between Dutch and Indonesian cultural partners;
  • Strengthen the international position of the Dutch cultural sector.

2. Who Can Apply

Applications are welcome from Dutch or Indonesian professional organisations. To be eligible:

  • The applicant must be a registered legal entity;

  • The project must involve a clear Dutch cultural component;

  • The activity must take place in Indonesia (online activities aimed at audiences in Indonesia may also be considered);

  • The project must not have started yet;

  • Dutch applicants must work with an Indonesian partner organisation.

  • Please note:

  • Individuals or amateur arts initiatives are not eligible to apply;

  • Purely commercial activities will not be considered.

We particularly encourage applications from organisations applying for the first time.

3. What Costs Can Be Funded

The embassy typically supports projects with contributions ranging from EUR 1,500 to EUR 10,000. In very exceptional cases, support may go up to EUR 20,000. Funding can contribute to costs directly related to the Dutch cultural component of a project, such as:

  • travel and accommodation;

  • publications;

  • communications and audience outreach;

  • workshops, lectures

  • audiovisual documentation;

  • educational materials;

  • part of production costs, only insofar they are directly related to the of the project.

Travel and accommodation support is capped at EUR 1,250 per person, based on economy-class travel. We encourage sustainable travel options wherever possible.

Please ensure that Dutch artists and creatives are compensated fairly, in line with recognised professional standards.

What cannot be funded

We cannot support:

  • general overhead or operational costs;

  • salaries or ongoing staff costs;

  • insurance;

  • shipping or transport of goods;

  • hospitality or entertainment costs;

  • conference participation fees;

  • purely commercial activities.

Funding conditions

Please note that:

  • total Dutch public funding may not exceed 50% of the Dutch component of the total project budget;

  • applicants are encouraged to seek support from multiple funding sources;

  • artist fees and in-kind contributions should be clearly reflected in the budget.

4. Application Process

  1. Prepare supporting documents, including:
    - Project description
    - Project timeline
    - A full and detailed budget of all costs involved. This budget must clearly show which costs the applicant wants to cover with Embassy funds and which costs are covered by other parties. Please supply the names of the other funders.

  2. Please ensure from the planning stage that all publications—including invitations, program booklets, posters, catalogues, media reports, and similar materials - acknowledge the support provided by the Embassy and display the logo of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and/or the Erasmus Huis.

We expect you to submit to a narrative report within 8 weeks after the end of the project.

5. Timing and Deadlines

  • Submit your application at least 12 weeks before the project start date.

  • A decision is usually made within 8 weeks of submission.

  • If approved, you must sign a Contribution Agreement before starting the project.

  • Payment is generally made 4–6 weeks after the signed agreement is returned.

6. What Makes an Application Strong

  • Stimulate a strong position for the Dutch cultural sector in Indonesia through sustainable collaboration, exchange, and visibility.

  • Focus on upcoming Dutch creative talents who have limited international experience.

  • Promote co-production and collaboration between Dutch and Indonesian creative talents.

  • Presentation of the Netherlands in all its diversity and inclusivity.

  • Focus on art cultural projects that strengthen democracy, freedom of expression and actively engage with young people.

  • The project is sustainable (financially, socially, environmentally…).

  • Includes a good own contribution.

  • Reflection of Dutch International Cultural Policy:

               International cultural Policy 2025 - 2028
