The Netherlands and India share a strong and growing partnership in healthcare. The collaboration on healthcare leverages the strengths of both nations to accessible, affordable, quality and safe healthcare solutions for a healthier future. More specifically, our engagements with India can be outlined as follows.

Public Health


The Netherlands and India work together on promoting accessible, affordable, safe and quality healthcare. The National Institute of Public Health and Environment (RIVM) is engaged with Indian Institutes such as National Centre for Disease Control, Indian Council of Medical Reserch among others to focus on infectious diseases and zoonoses.
Institutes such as Erasmus Medical Centre, Maastricht University, Radboud Medical Centre, Leiden Bio Science Park, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi , Institute of Technology (IITs) and many others are jointly working on innovative (digital) health applications. Areas of cooperation include non-communicable diseases such as cancer, medical imaging, medical robotics and others.

 

Medical Technologies

The Netherlands and India are leveraging each other’s strengths on medical technologies including cooperation on capacity building in cybersecurity for healthcare. Bilateral trade & investment is growing with the presence of many Dutch players in India while Indian innovations are also entering the Netherlands offering labour saving solutions among others. Institutional engagements include joint research, skills development training and co-development of innovative medical products by various organizations and incubation centres.

Pharmaceuticals

The Netherlands and India are working together with the mutual objective to ensure supply of safe, affordable and quality medicines. Cooperation also includes joint research, capacity building and regulatory alignment. The Netherlands also acts as a gateway to the European Union for many Indian pharmaceutical companies.

Regulatory Cooperation


Under the Memorandum of Intent, the regulatory authorities are engaged in technical collaborations, training and skills development activities, facilitating market access for medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

The Netherlands and India are committed to work on global health challenges such as Anti-Microbial Resistance, Pandemic Preparedness and Climate Change & sustainability. RIVM shares its knowledge and experience with hosting World Health Organisation (WHO) Collaborating Centres aimed at building a regional network of prospective WHO Collaborating Centres on Digital Health. At various multilateral forums such as World Health Assembly, Global Digital Health Partnership, World Local Production Forum among others, India and the Netherlands are working on common goals.

Event: International Pharmaceutical Exhibition iPHEX 2025.

4-6 September a delagtion from the Netherlands of medicine procurement professionals is visiting India. The visit marks an important step in exploring (business)opportunities with Indian producers. The focus of this visit is on mutual understanding, knowledge exchange, and the identification of potential matches that could contribute to the availability of critical medicines in the Netherlands.
