An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Netherlands Business Support Office (NBSO) in Ahmedabad as a Deputy Representative. As a Deputy Representative, you will work closely with the Chief Representative in supporting Dutch SME’s who are looking to expand their business to India. We do this by providing reliable market information, answering specific trade questions, offering a local network and regularly organising events. We also work to actively recognise trade opportunities and possible investment opportunities, within the state of Gujarat. Our aim is to promote the Netherlands and its companies, ensuring any market introductions are researched and prepared to go as smoothly as possible.
This dynamic position requires proactiveness, excellent communication and networking skills, ability to work independently while collaborating closely with the colleagues from the Dutch economic network in India and with NBSO Homebase in The Hague.
The Deputy Representative will report directly to the Chief Representative (CR) of NBSO in Ahmedabad.
About NBSO Ahmedabad
The Kingdom of the Netherlands has NBSOs in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. Together with the Embassy in New Delhi, the Consulates-General in Bengaluru and Mumbai and the Honorary Consuls in Chennai, Kolkata and Lucknow they comprise the economic network of the Netherlands in India. The NBSO teams are made up of a Chief Representative and a Deputy Representative.
Our key focus sectors are Energy (Green Hydrogen and Renewables), Agriculture and Food-Processing, and Water and Maritime, although we assist many companies in a variety of markets. NBSO Ahmedabad is part of a worldwide network of Netherlands Business Support Offices (NBSOs) administrated by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and works closely with the Dutch Embassy in New Delhi.
NBSOs have no diplomatic status and are dedicated exclusively to the promotion of Dutch trade and investment.
Tasks & Responsibility of the NBSO Ahmedabad Deputy Representative:
The position of Deputy Representative is a supporting role to the Chief Representative, whose main task is strategic and business development. At the same time, independence is expected in supporting Dutch companies showing interest in the Indian market. The main tasks and responsibilities of the DR include:
Individual Business Support:
- Advising Dutch companies in their orientation on the Indian market
- Support Dutch companies in identifying potential customers, distributors, suppliers and strategic partners.
- Scheduling and follow-up after business meetings
- Providing services such as general & tailored market information and partners scans
- Making connections and introductions to relevant stakeholders
Operations:
- Managing the Ahmedabad office and financial administration
- Contribute to annual work plans.
- Registering and updating all NBSO activities in the database of the Dutch government, in travel systems and other relevant work documents
- Preparing reports on projects managed by NBSO
- Taking over the daily responsibility for the office during the absence of the CR.
- Marketing & Communication:
- (Co-)organisation of promotional activities, informative export meetings, fairs and seminars, visit programs for trade missions, official delegations and business organisations.
- Implementing the communication strategy and social media campaigns to increase the number of followers and reach the target audience; Manage the NBSO’s social media channels (content, posts, management).

Proactively collect and process relevant market information; identify export or investment opportunities for Dutch companies

Being the primary contact point within the NBSO Ahmedabad for the concerning priority sector(s) and representing the NBSO externally in this field.
Qualifications
We are looking for an energetic, internationally oriented professional with the following qualifications:
- Higher education degree, preferably in the area of business administration, international trade, or equivalent
- Affiliation with international business, the Netherlands and its economy.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience, in an Indian or international enterprise.
- Knowledge of Indian tax- and import regulations.
- Knowledge and network within Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem are a plus.
- Excellent command of written and spoken Gujarati and English (Dutch proficiency is a plus).
- Experienced in answering requests from businesses and processing information in an adequate manner.
- Experienced in organising business events.
- Experienced in using social media like LinkedIn.
- A right to work and live in India.
- Available from or shortly after 1st October 2026
Preferred competencies
Eligible candidates must possess or excel in these competencies:
- Familiarity with (either of) sectors such as renewable energy, water, maritime, semiconductors, agriculture or food-processing
- Experience of working in international trade promotion is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills

Employment Conditions
The selected candidate will be offered a fixed term employment contract for one year. Upon expiry of this contract, a two-year employment contract will be offered in case of excellent job performance. On the same condition, a three-year employment contract will be offered upon the expiry of the second employment contract. Any successive employment contract thereafter will be decided upon on a case-by-case basis. You will be contracted by the Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi.
Employment will be according to Indian labour regulations. Non-Indian candidates should present a work permit for India.
The Deputy Representative will be based in Ahmedabad and regularly travel within Gujarat and occasionally within India. Limited travel to the Netherlands may be required.
Upon employment, the employee will be ranked in salary scale 7, the same as the job level. All ten salary scales at the Embassy comprise 16 pay numbers. The pay number assigned to the employee upon employment depends on the number of years of relevant experience. After every 12 months, the employee may be awarded one additional pay number depending on his or her job performance in the preceding 12 months. At present, salary scale 9 starts with a gross monthly salary of INR 119,959 for pay number 0 and ends with a gross monthly salary of INR 179,939 for pay number 16. Salaries are reviewed every first of January. Every December a 13th month salary is paid. Within certain restrictions 95% of necessary medical cost are reimbursed. Employees are encouraged and supported to seek further training and education to improve their skills and broaden their employability. This is paid for by the employer.
Income tax and social security premiums are to be paid by the employee in accordance with Indian Law and regulations.
