Joint Statement on the occasion of the 30th Budapest Pride Festival

On the 30th occasion of the Budapest Pride Festival, we, the undersigned embassies and cultural institutes, reaffirm our support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) persons in Hungary and around the world. We stand for every person’s rights to equal treatment and non-discrimination, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and protection from verbal and physical violence, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We commend the advocacy of human rights defenders, activists, journalists and civil society organizations working to ensure that all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sex characteristics, receive equal treatment and the full protection of the law.

For more than three decades, the Budapest Pride March has been a symbol of resilience and progress, reflecting the vital role of LGBTIQ+ persons in the further development of democracy. As Budapest Pride celebrates this milestone, we stand firm in our commitment to a future where all individuals can live freely, with love and PRIDE.
