Battery value chain advisor - Finland

Battery value chain advisor wanted

Power up! The Embassy of the Netherlands in Helsinki is looking for a new colleague to work on trade promotion and economic diplomacy in the field of battery production and critical raw materials.

You will be conducting a 2 year project on the battery value chain from mining to second/third lifecycle, in order to boost collaboration between Finland/the broader Nordic region and the Netherlands, and identify business opportunities in this field. As part of the small but highly motivated trade promotion & public diplomacy team you will be rendering strategic as well as practical advice to the Embassy and other relevant Netherlands authorities (for example, the Foreign ministry and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency) on areas such as critical raw materials, sustainable battery production, recycling and battery innovation. Sustainable energy transition is a key priority for the Dutch Embassy. You will be offered a fixed-term contract for one year, to be extended with another year.

Responsibilities and result areas:

•    Planning and conducting a 2-year project on the battery value chain, aimed at strengthening investment, trade and policy collaboration between the Netherlands and the Nordics (notably Finland, Sweden and Norway), by working closely with economic officers at our embassies in Stockholm and Oslo.
•    Signal relevant policy developments regarding battery production and critical raw materials in Finland and the Netherlands.
•    Drawing up an action plan to help Dutch companies within the battery industry to pro-actively increase market share in the Nordics and to enter into strategic partnerships with Nordic companies and research institutes.
•    Facilitating matchmaking of potential partners in Finland (and the wider Nordics) and the Netherlands, for instance by showcasing the Dutch national battery strategy and informing Dutch companies and research institutions about (upcoming) opportunities in Finland, Sweden and Norway.

Your profile:

•    A creative, pro-active team player & networker, with the ability to draw up and conduct project plans independently and with stakeholders.
•    Enthusiastic about the role that batteries play within the green transition.
•    Preferably with knowledge related to for example raw material mining, relevant machinery battery production or recycling/re-use.
•    Committed to find effective ways of advancing Dutch-Nordic collaboration within the battery value chain.
•    Relevant academic studies (eg. in economics, business/public administration, engineering or chemistry) and relevant work experience (business development, marketing, international trade promotion, etc.). Experience in project management is a plus.
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills in an international environment.
•    Experience in event organization (including virtual events) will be an advantage
•    Excellent English and Finnish language skills. Dutch, Swedish, and/or Norwegian language skills will be a plus.

What we offer:

We offer you a fulltime, locally employed contract for a year with a possible extension for a second year. You will work closely with all colleagues at the Embassy. The atmosphere is informal, and we work closely as one team with a joint responsibility. As part of our hybrid work guidelines, we work mainly at our office in Helsinki’s city centre, with the possibility to partly work from home. We expect our new colleague to start no later than 1 May 2024.

How to apply:

Please submit your motivation letter and CV in English no later than 17 March to Martijn Adelaar, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Finland by e-mail: HEL@minbuza.nl.
