Exhibition on climate change in Port Said
The impacts of climate change are increasingly visible worldwide. Extreme weather events, wildfires, and floods are becoming more frequent, while access to fresh water and fertile soil continues to decline.
The Kingdom of the Netherlands, in collaboration with World Press Photo, and in partnership with the PortSaid Governorate presents the 'Down to Earth: Climate Change and Climate Futures' exhibition. The exhibition is implented by Photobia and translates climate change and the future of the planet into images. It tells the stories behind destruction, displacement, and loss, but also of human resilience, adaptation, and innovation.
Last Thursday, Deputy Ambassador Eva Witteman, together with the Governor of Port Said and the Co-Founder of Photopia, officially opened Down to Earth in the remarkable city of Port Said at Feryal Garden, just days before the symbolic anniversary of the Suez Canal’s inauguration.
Connect
Just as the canal connected continents more than 150 years ago,
this exhibition connects people today through art, awareness, and a
shared commitment to our planet’s future.
It is the first
exhibition dedicated to visualizing climate change and climate
futures, focusing on 21st-century stories from the World Press Photo
archive, powerful images that reveal both the mounting environmental
crisis and the human creativity driving adaptation and hope.
A longstanding friendship
The Netherlands and Egypt share more than a longstanding friendship; we share water. For 50 years, our countries have worked side by side to protect and manage this vital resource, from coastal protection and delta management to sustainable water use and climate adaptation. This exhibition is part of that legacy. Through compelling imagery, it reminds us that rising seas affect us all, from Alexandria to Amsterdam. Through this initiative, we continue to build connections and mutual understanding between Egypt and the Netherlands.
During the opening, the Port Said Governor invited schools across Port Said to visit the exhibition, offering students a valuable opportunity to explore themes of creativity, climate impact, and environmental responsibility.
You still have the chance to see this exhibition!
