Safe Cities
The Netherlands partnered up with the University of Alexandria, Safe Cities and Safe Public Places Programme to combat violence against women in Alexandria in general and the university in particular. We organized a workshop, together with professors from the university. Students and security officers attended the workshops. The feedback on this project was highly positive. Way to go!
Strengthening Climate Resilience and Food Security in Southern Egypt
In cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the World Food Program, we have launched a project on land and crop consolidation in 60 villages, as a stepping stone for the introduction of agriculture improvements and water saving techniques in fragmented lands in Upper Egypt. In this project, women are encouraged to participate.
Gender Sensitizing the Legislative Process
Together with the Egyptian Feminist Union, an umbrella organization with over 300 CSO members across Egypt, we set up a project to support female parliamentarians. For gender equality legislations and women's rights, we support research papers and evidence-based policy advice. Moreover, we organise public meetings with their constituencies, engaging them with the media.
Assisting migrants
The Netherlands and IOM Egypt work on strengthening protection and assistance services for vulnerable, stranded and transiting migrants within mixed migration flows in North Africa, such as assisted voluntary return and sustainable reintegration. The partnership with IOM contributes to decreasing irregular migration, enhancing protection of people on the move, increasing voluntary return and sustainable reintegration of migrants.
Combating money laundering
The Netherlands and UNODC MENA jointly work on enhancing national capacities in Egypt, Morocco and Sudan to detect, investigate, prosecute and adjudicate crimes of human trafficking, migrant smuggling and money laundering. This partnership contributes to less irregular migration and better protection of people on the move.
Financial literacy for vulnerable people
Having access to finances is fundamental for poverty reduction, job creation, income generation and social protection. The Netherlands have therefore partnered up with ILO to create financial education toolkits for youth and women. The goal is to improve their decisions on taking a loan, saving or transferring money and dealing with financial institutions.
