50 Years Water Collaboration

The Netherlands - Egypt

For nearly fifty years, the Netherlands and Egypt have worked together on water. What began as an exchange of expertise has developed into a broad and strategic partnership built on shared experience, practical cooperation and long-term commitment.

Let's connect

Our colleagues are happy to help you!

Both countries understand the central role water plays in shaping societies, economies and landscapes. This shared understanding has provided a strong and enduring basis for collaboration that continues to grow as global challenges become more pressing.

Throughout the decades, engineers, policymakers, researchers and institutions from both our countries have worked closely together. Their joint efforts combine technical knowledge with practical experience, turning ideas into workable solutions.

The partnership itself has evolved considerably. Early cooperation focused largely on the exchange of knowledge. Today, it increasingly includes implementation and investment, reflecting the urgency of contemporary water challenges and the need to move from planning to delivery.  Each project is developed in close partnership, ensuring it responds to local priorities while benefiting from international expertise.

Regular high-level dialogue remains central to this relationship. These exchanges allow both countries to review progress, identify new priorities and strengthen the connections between institutions and experts. They help ensure that cooperation remains focused, effective and forward-looking, while maintaining the trust that has been built over many years.

Water is not only a development issue. It is closely linked to economic stability, food security, migration and social wellbeing. Effective water management supports livelihoods and creates the conditions for sustainable growth.

The Netherlands and Egypt are not only partners, we are co-creators of solutions. By combining knowledge, innovation, and long-term commitment, we are building a more water-secure and climate-resilient future together.
