Job description


As an Operational Manager (OM) you manage and are responsible for the work of the General Affairs and Consular Affairs department. The job covers a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities.
In General Affairs, the OM is in charge of financial affairs (including invoice payments, payroll management, cash management), operational matters such as housing, maintenance of chancellery and residence, contract management and everyday IT support, as well as managing the driver, housekeeper, and residence staff. 
In Consular Affairs, the OM oversees the work of the Senior Consular Officer who provides both customer-facing services (passport and visa application, other consular documents) and back office tasks. The OM acts as backup for the Senior Consular Officer.
The OM cooperates and networks with a wide variety of stakeholders in General and Consular Affairs, including relevant Czech authorities, suppliers, the Dutch MFA and its various departments, and other embassies accredited to Czechia.
The OM is a member of the management team with the Ambassador and the Deputy Head of Mission and advises on his/her areas of responsibility as well as acting as a sparring partner for other areas. The OM reports to the Ambassador. The Deputy Head of Mission is back-up for the OM in many (management) issues.
The working language is English and fluency in Czech is a must. Fluency in Dutch is a strong asset.

Type of employee


In view of the wide variety of responsibilities, the successful candidate must have strong planning, coordination, communication, and people skills, as well as being cost-conscious. He/she must also have an affinity for and an ability to master rules and procedures. He/she should possess plenty of initiative, problem-solving ability and independence in bringing tasks to completion. Strong result-oriented and go-getting mentality is a must.
As a member of the MT, the successful candidate must also have an eye for the general interest of the NL embassy and its staff. 
As a representative of the Netherlands and its embassy (and therefore of the Netherlands), he/she must have strong representational skills, a client-focused and friendly communication style and a strong sense of integrity.


Working environment


The team of the Netherlands Embassy in Prague consists of 12 employees (in total 10.5 FTE) of which are 3 (3FTE) diplomats and 10 (8.5FTE) local employees. The Embassy and the Residence of the Ambassador are housed in charming historic buildings in Prague-Bubenec. Both the Embassy and the Residence are located within walking distance of the Hradcanska public transport stops. The Embassy is located close to Stromovka Park.
