Argentina’s Resources: Powering the European Transition

Argentina is uniquely positioned to solve the supply challenges faced by the Netherlands and the EU. Beyond its mineral wealth, Argentina possesses world-class potential for green hydrogen and low-carbon fuels, driven by the exceptional winds of Patagonia and solar radiation in the North. Furthermore, Argentina’s LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) resources serve as a critical bridge fuel, ensuring energy security for Europe during the transition to a net-zero economy.

The mineral foundation for this shift is equally vital. Cobalt, magnesium, copper, nickel, indium, and lithium are some of the critical raw materials indispensable to the global energy transition. They are essential for batteries, renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, and modern infrastructure.

Argentina plays a key role in this context. As part of the “Lithium Triangle”—together with Chile and Bolivia—it holds some of the world’s largest lithium reserves and also has significant copper resources. With numerous projects under development, Argentina has major growth potential while the government is encouraging investment through the RIGI (Incentive Regime for Large Investments).
