Bilateral Engagement & Human Rights

The Kingdom of the Netherlands and Argentina have excellent bilateral relations, going back centuries.

Our relationship is a strong and dynamic partnership built on shared values, decades of bilateral and international cooperation and strong people to people ties. Argentina’s ambition to join the OECD, the EU-MERCOSUR treaty and our shared political efforts bring our countries closer together.

Human Rights

Human rights are rights that apply worldwide, to all people, in all places, at all times. They are the foundations of a democracy in which every person counts. The Netherlands strives to protect and promote human rights all over the world.

The six priorities are:

  • freedom of expression and internet freedom
  • freedom of religion or belief, including the freedom to not believe
  • equal rights for LGBTI persons
  • support for human rights defenders and space for civil society
  • equal rights for women and girls
  • international accountability for the most serious crimes

Human Rights Efforts in Argentina

Although our embassy does not have dedicated funds to promote human rights, we continue to be active on this matter. Our embassy regularly brings journalists together to discuss press freedom, we play an active role in promoting women’ and LGBTIQ+ rights (including via Embajadas por la Igualdad), and maintain a strong network with civil society.
