About us - Netherlands Innovation Network
The Netherlands Innovation Network in Singapore stimulates international cooperation between Dutch and Singaporean companies, research institutes and public authorities in the fields of innovation and technology. Our activities help implement the international knowledge and innovation agenda of the Dutch government. Our network in Singapore has a long-term agenda focused on innovation in areas such as optical systems and integrated photonics, quantum technologies, data encryption, mechatronics and optomechatronics, and semiconductor technologies.
Semiconductor technologies and high tech
Singapore plays a central role in global semiconductor manufacturing and advanced electronics, with capabilities across the full value chain from design and wafer fabrication to assembly, testing and equipment. Its ecosystem integrates multinational manufacturers, specialised suppliers and applied research institutes, enabling close linkages between production, R&D and system integration. Dutch companies such as ASML, NXP, ASM, BESI, VDL ETG and NTS are present across this ecosystem, spanning semiconductor equipment, design and precision engineering.
The Netherlands and Singapore governments have agreed to deepen cooperation in semiconductors, focusing on innovation, talent and resilient supply chains. This is reflected in government-level collaboration, including partnerships between the Singapore Economic Development Board and regional development agencies such as the Brabant Development Agency to advance high-tech and semiconductor cooperation. In parallel, ecosystem partnerships are expanding, including collaboration between the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association and PhotonDelta on integrated photonics, and joint research efforts with A*STAR on advanced packaging and heterogeneous integration.
Artificial Intelligence, secure data use and cybersecurity
Artificial intelligence, secure data use and cybersecurity are central to Singapore’s digital economy and Smart Nation ambitions. The country promotes trusted and responsible innovation through governance frameworks and strong collaboration between government, industry and research institutions.
The Netherlands and Singapore governments maintain a close exchange on post-quantum security, exploring developments in encryption and secure communications in response to emerging technological challenges. Cooperation also addresses cyber resilience, with attention to critical infrastructure and maritime and industrial systems. In addition, research institutes engage on digital trust, including research in privacy-preserving data sharing and secure data exchange research.
