About us - Netherlands Innovation Network
The Netherlands Innovation Network in the United States stimulates international cooperation between Dutch and American companies, research institutes and public authorities in the fields of innovation and technology. Our activities help implement the international knowledge and innovation agenda of the Dutch government. Our network in the United States has a long-term agenda focused on innovation in areas such as biomolecular and cell technologies, Artificial Intelligence and data, semiconductor technologies, optical systems and integrated photonics, mechatronics and optamechatronics, and energy materials .
Biomolecular and cell technologies
The Netherlands' 'quadruple helix' approach ensures that knowledge institutions, industry, government and citizens all work together to find sustainable, future-savy solutions and provides a highly complementary ecosystem to the United States. Building on global strengths in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health innovation, the Netherlands continues to generate leading biotech startups and multinational life science companies supported by world‑class research institutions and university medical centers.
The U.S. represents a key strategic partner, offering the world’s largest healthcare market, cutting‑edge research capabilities, and a dense concentration of biotech innovation hubs and investors. International collaboration in LSH and biotech accelerates innovation, supports sustainable healthcare solutions, and contributes to improved patient outcomes in both countries.
The Netherlands and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts signed an MoU for cooperation in life sciences and health in 2019. This agreement has evolved into an active Transatlantic Life Sciences Partnership with the signing of a Program of Cooperation in 2022.
Artificial Intelligence and data
Artificial intelligence is transforming the way we do science, build businesses, and solve society's biggest challenges. The Netherlands and the United States share a long tradition of innovation and today that partnership is more relevant than ever.
Through active collaboration between Dutch researchers, deep-tech companies, and leading American institutions, we are strengthening a transatlantic bridge with the Bay Area at its center. The Netherlands brings distinctive expertise in responsible AI development, technical infrastructure, and applied research; capabilities that naturally complement the frontier AI ecosystem of Silicon Valley.
From joint research initiatives and knowledge exchange to supporting Dutch startups looking to scale in the U.S. market, this collaboration spans the full innovation chain. Our goal is to position the Netherlands as a trusted, indispensable partner in one of the world's most dynamic technology regions. Turning shared ambition into real-world impact on both sides of the Atlantic.
