Consulate General in Cape Town

Consul General Sebastiaan Messerschmidt and his team at the Consulate are the representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Western-Cape.

Our main task at the Consulate is trade promotion, investment facilitation between South Africa and the Netherlands and the protection of Dutch assets.

We do this by:

•           Gathering and disbursing information;

•           Building networks;

•           Organizing and accompanying missions and delegations;

•           Facilitating knowledge exchanges with South African educational institutions and other entities;

•           Rolling out the orange carpet (preferential treatment in issuing visa)

Besides Economic Affairs the other main focus area of the Consulate General is Consular Affairs. At the consular department, Dutch citizens can, among other things, obtain a passport. People can apply for a VISA at VFS.

Lastly, the promotion of Dutch culture and South African-Dutch cultural exchange is another important aspect of our work here at the Consulate General.
