On Thursday 16th of March 2023, from 16.15 – 19.30, The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Tokyo organizes an event on the energy transition, specifically zooming in on offshore wind and hydrogen. The program is found in the PDF below. Experts from across industries, supply chains and stakeholders are brought together to review the state of the energy transition, and the paths that both the Netherlands and Japan are following to realize this transition. Via scene setting on the Dutch and Japanese policies, and challenges facing our offshore wind energy and hydrogen sector, common ground for collaboration will be explored and shared in an interactive setting.
The program is divided into three subparts: 1) Energy Transition, 2) Offshore Wind, and 3) Hydrogen. First off, Ms. Liesje Schreinemacher, the Netherlands’ Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation provides an opening speech for the audience in which she sets the scene for the Netherlands perspective.
Next, the part on Energy Transition in general is kicked off by Mr. Tjerk Opmeer, Director International Programs at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). In his presentation he elaborates on the roadmaps and policy from the Netherlands. This is supplemented by Mr. Hiro Inoue, Director-General of the Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department at METI to share the Japanese policy perspective.
The second part of the seminar is on offshore wind. Mr. Arjen Schutten, Managing Director of Holland Home of Wind Energy (HHWE) shares insights in how the Netherlands approaches offshore wind in the context of the North Sea. Mr. Jin Kato, President of the the Japan Wind Power Association (JWPA) elaborates more on the development of the Japanese Supply Chain and the opportunities and challenges that can be identified.
Lastly, experts from the hydrogen sector share their insights and knowledge with the audience. Mr. Patrick Cnubben, Director on Hydrogen Strategy of the New Energy Coalition in the Netherlands explains how hydrogen projects in the context of the North Sea are developed and deployed. From the Japanese side, Mr. Hiroki Yoshida, Deputy Director of the Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Strategy Office follows and talks about Japan’s vision and actions towards a hydrogen economy.
