The customs attaché contributes to further intensifying the bilateral working relationship that exists between the Dutch and Chinese Customs Administrations since 1991. Training of customs officers (especially in the field of management) is an important item within this relationship.
Apart from working on customs fraud in the broadest sense the customs attaché takes part in the mutual pilot project of EU, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom and China concerning so-called 'Smart and Secure Trade Lanes' between a number of European and Chinese harbours.
This pilot project is of importance to the economic relationships between EU/Netherlands and China. The project aims at affective customs control, using the latest technical means while at the same time facilitating trade as much as possible, whereas aspects of security play a major role.
