About us - Netherlands Innovation Network
The Netherlands Innovation Network in Sweden stimulates international cooperation between Dutch and Nordic companies, research institutes and public authorities in the fields of innovation and technology. Our activities help implement the international knowledge and innovation agenda of the Dutch government. Our network in Sweden has a long-term agenda focused on innovation in areas such as quantum technologies, biomolecular and cell technologies, Artificial Intelligence and data.
Quantum technologies
The Netherlands aims to position itself as a leading European quantum hub through Quantum Delta NL and the House of Quantum, connecting academia, industry, start-ups and government actors in one ecosystem.
Sweden is advancing rapidly through the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology at Chalmers University of Technology and through strong national collaboration platforms. The Netherlands Innovation Network Sweden works closely with stakeholders in both countries to identify complementary strengths and new opportunities for cooperation. Key areas include Sweden’s leading expertise in quantum applications for life sciences and the Netherlands’ frontrunner position in Quantum Internet and quantum security technologies.
Through matchmaking activities, ecosystem exchanges and innovation missions, Dutch-Swedish collaboration in quantum technology is steadily deepening, contributing to Europe’s technological sovereignty and competitiveness in next-generation computing, communication and sensing technologies.
Biomolecular and cell technologies
The Netherlands is a major European hub for Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs), hosting manufacturing facilities of companies such as Gilead Sciences and Johnson & Johnson. The country combines strong academic research, innovative start-ups and public-private partnerships to accelerate new therapies. One of Europe’s strongest collaborations is the Leiden-Lund university partnership, linking research, infrastructure and commercialization efforts between the Netherlands and southern Sweden. National Dutch-Swedish ATMP roundtables further address manufacturing, regulation and therapy accessibility through joint action plans.
Medical device and Invitro diagnostics are two other areas where both Sweden and the Netherlands excels with high tech academic research and thriving companies. To further boost market access for young companies, there is an emerging collaboration between testing facilities in the Netherlands and the Nordics. Both Dutch and Nordic companies will have access to a larger pool of sites to clinically and technically validate their products.
Artificial Intelligence and data
Artificial Intelligence is a strategic area where the Netherlands and Sweden share a human-centric and values-driven approach, combining technological excellence with public trust and societal impact.
In Sweden, actors such as AI Sweden, the TAIGA Centre for Transdisciplinary AI at Umeå University, and the newly launched MIMER AI Factory are strengthening Sweden’s position in responsible and applied AI. TAIGA, led by Dutch Professor Frank Dignum, focuses on socially conscious and trustworthy AI. Sweden is also expanding compute capacity through MIMER and the growing AI ecosystem in Linköping.
The Netherlands is scaling up through the Dutch AI Coalition and the Dutch AI Factory in Groningen, a €200 million European-scale initiative developed with AIC4NL, TNO and SURF. NIN Sweden supports collaboration between Dutch and Swedish AI ecosystems through matchmaking, innovation missions and knowledge exchange on trustworthy AI aligned with European values.
