The Boeing 777-200 of Malaysia Airlines was en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and flying over eastern Ukraine.

Repatriation of Dutch casualties starts on 23 July 2014

On 7 August 2014, the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) is established. The JIT, consisting of investigative authorities from the Netherlands, Malaysia, Australia, Belgium and Ukraine, conducts the criminal investigation into the downing of flight MH17.

Decision JIT-countries to prosecute in the Netherlands on 5 July 2017

Trial and prosecution will take place by and in the Netherlands, under Dutch law.

To commemorate all 298 victims a monument is built in Vijfhuizen, the Netherlands. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Màxima of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are among the dignitaries who attended the ceremony.

Decision to start prosecution on 19 June 2019

The Public Prosecutor decides to prosecute four suspects, based on the evidence gathered by the JIT.
