Embassies Talking Trade in Bangkok
This month representatives from the economic departments of the Dutch missions in Hanoi, Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City and our own Embassy in Jakarta gathered in Bangkok.
Over the last years we have been working closely with our colleagues in the region when it comes to trade an investment promotion. Together, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam (the “ASEAN-5”), are a priority for the Dutch global trade and investment policy. Representatives from the trade directorate at our Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) from The Hague therefore also flew in to join us in discussions on the way forward.
During the meeting we decided to focus our regional efforts for the coming years on agrifood, the water and waste management sectors, life sciences and health, and digitalization. For example, in June a life sciences and health mission of Dutch companies to Indonesia will be organized, which will also visit Malaysia. This way, we make effective use of our companies visiting the region, showing them the differences in doing business in the various markets. This makes it easier for them to decide for which market(s) their products or services are best suited, or where to invest.
At the same time, of course we also keep doing nationally oriented sector work and activities, for example on energy or sustainable transport in Indonesia.
Aside from the content, of course it was a joy to see our colleagues in person again, after almost three years of video conferencing. We hope we don't have to wait that long for a next regional meeting again!
