Jakarta Fashion Week 2020: Let’s Go Sustainable!
Like nearly all festivals in the world, the Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) will be completely online this year, and will take place from 26 to 29 November 2020 in Jakarta. This year there is a cooperation between Erasmus Huis and JFW. The topic “Sustainability and Fashion” fits the Erasmushuis really well because sustainability is one of the main focus issues of the Netherlands. Sustainability is a keyword in the fashion movement today and tomorrow. Understanding the issues with wider perspective and spectrum inside the industry will create a better understanding about the term.
Our director Yolande Melsert will take part in a seminar on this topic on Saturday, 28 November 2020, at 16:00.Together with the Indonesian sustainable fashion designer Auguste Soesastro of Wastu Studio, and the sustainable fashion experts Ista Boszhard and Beatriz Sandini of the Dutch Waag Textilelab Amsterdam, she will talk about the way we could chance the conservative, too much producing fashion industry into a modern one, with care for humans and nature.
Also the documentary “Taking Justice” will be shown digitally at 13.00 on the same day. This movie is about two Dutch lawyers Janneke and Judith, who founded the brand J-LAB3L. They fight for justice in the fashion industry, and the documentary shows it is possible to produce clothes in a sustainable and ethical way. A must watch!
