Webinar Series on Democracy

On the 15th of September we celebrated the International Day of Democracy. This is the day to review the state of democracy in the world. In the words of the UN: ‘Democracy is as much a process as a goal and only with the full participation of and support by the international community, national governing bodies, civil society and individuals, the ideal of democracy can be made into reality’.

This is exactly what the A.E. Priyono Democracy Forum is about. The forum is a collaboration between Erasmus Huis and Public Virtue and this fall it presents a series of webinars, focusing on democracy, participation, civic space and pluralism.

On the 4th of September the series kicked off with a webinar on ‘Promoting critical democratic discourse’. Watch it here. The second webinar took place last Friday. The theme of this webinar was ‘Participatory Democracy: from civic education at the village community to civic activism online’. Andy Yentriyani, chairperson of the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan) delivered a keynote speech. If you missed out, you can watch the webinar here.

The next webinar is on Friday 2 October 2020. Keep an eye on our social media channels to find out more on the theme of this webinar and to register.
