King’s Day 2020: the ‘’Wilhelmus’’ in Seoul

On the occasion of King’s Day 2020, the staff of the Netherlands embassy in Seoul sang the Dutch national anthem ‘’Wilhelmus’’, as alternative for the usual festivities, that were cancelled this year because of COVID-19.

On the 27th of April in the Netherlands it was King’s Day, the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. Due to COVID-19, the usual festivities were cancelled in the Netherlands and at Dutch Embassies abroad. At (the rooftop terrace of) the Netherlands Embassy in Seoul however, the staff of the embassy did join the singing of the Dutch national anthem ‘’Wilhelmus’’, at 10 a.m. Dutch time (17h in Korea). This was an initiative #wilhelmus2020 of the Royal Dutch Concertgebouw Orchestra, to start the celebration of this Dutch national day with a grand and positive gesture of solidarity. Na Young Jeon, Dutch-Korean singer and actress, was there as guest of honor to sing along with her wonderful voice! The embassy hopes that all Dutch in Korea, despite the trying circumstances, had a good King’s Day.
