The Colorful World of Arp Frique and Family
After the warming up concert at Erasmus Huis on the 14th, Arp Frique and Family performed at Ngayog Jazz 2019 on the 16th of November.
Ngayog Jazz is an annual jazz festival, community based, organized by volunteers only. Every year another kampung is given the opportunity to host the festival. This year’s edition took place in Padukuhan Kwagon, a kampong in the vicinity of Yogyakarta, known for the production of roof tiles.
During the festival more than 43.000 people visited the 7 different stages, built in the middle of rice paddies and decorated with bamboo sculptures.
Arp Frique had the pleasure to perform for 14000 people at the main stage, right before the closing act of the festival. With their exotic and super funky music, with influences for Cape Verde, Surinam, Brasil and Ghana, larded with the distinctive sound of Arp synths, they gave the audience a view into their Colorful World. Though a bit shy at first, lead singer Mariseyaa managed to loosen up the audience along the line and it was a pleasure to see so many people dance on the sounds of this amazing band.
Arp Frique concluded their tour at Radjawali Art Center in Semarang. The combination of the exotic music with the futuristic graphics projected on the immense LED screen made the audience truly experience how colorful the world of Arp Frique and his Family really is.
