Ambassador Grijns Presented His Credentials to President Joko Widodo
On Wednesday November 20th Ambassador-designate Lambert Grijns presented his credentials to President Joko Widodo (‘Jokowi’) of the Republic of Indonesia, at a ceremony in the Merdeka Palace at Monas, Central Jakarta.
After handing over the official letter by King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands to President Joko Widodo, the now officially accepted Ambassador for some time could speak personally with the President; Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi was also present. Ambassador Grijns conveyed the personal greetings of the King to the President, voicing also the King’s satisfaction with the very friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries. After returning his best greetings for the King, the President looked back at the successful visit of Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Indonesia on October 7th. This was followed by a more business-like discussion of mostly economic issues which will be taken forward as a follow-up to the Prime Minister’s visit. After returning from the Palace to the Embassy, Ambassador Grijns was welcomed back and congratulated by the entire Embassy staff on this important, solemn but also festive event of presenting the credentials to the Head of State.
