INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 2019
In Bangladesh we celebrate a future for women and girls to play an active role in building inclusive systems for more gender equality. Laws and policies need to be implemented to advance women’s economic participation in Bangladesh. Child marriage is a major obstacle for women to become productive and contribute to the country’s economic growth. Collective action and shared responsibility is key to reach a gender-balanced world.
The Embassy in Dhaka fully supports this goal!
Michael: Respect women everywhere, even at home.
Harry: Women are the backbone of the Bangladeshi economy and crucial for development. Too often women suffer from violence and lack of opportunities, e.g. because of early marriage. If women are given the opportunity they will contribute to their families, their communities and their country’s GDP. And will be independently making free choices on the individual level.
Nadim: I support my wife and my mother in everything they do. I support and respect my female colleagues too. I recognize them as women contributing to my welfare in personal and professional life.
Peter: International Women’s Day is not a nice photo opportunity. It is a reminder to come out of our comfort zones and take steps and decisions enabling women empowerment.
