IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings

From 8 to 14 of October, Indonesia proudly held the IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings, taking place in Nusa Dua, Bali.
The main themes of this year’s meetings include digital development and investing in human capital; which among many, resulted in the “Bali Fintech Agenda” and the launch of “Human Capital Index”.
Many top-ranking officials participated, amongst others Dutch Central Bank President, Klaas Knot, the CEO’s of ING, ABN-AMRO, FMO and other financial institutions. Vice-ministers Reina Buijs (Foreign Affairs) and Christiaan Rebergen (Finance) represented the Dutch government.
A highlight from the meetings was the speech of President Joko Widodo during the plenary session, which resulted in standing ovation of all attendees in the room. His main message, which channeled in the metaphors of TV-Show “Game of Thrones”, was to express his favor of international cooperation, in opposed to trade wars between nations.
During the week, the meetings also reflect back, and look forward, to the implementation of SDGs in all nations. During the “Implementing SDGs in a Changing World”, - a World Bank Group meeting - Vice Minister for International Cooperation Reina Buijs shared the Netherlands best practice called “the Dutch Diamond Approach”. In ensuring the inclusiveness in implementing SDGs, Vice Minister Buijs stressed the importance of working with all layers of society. She also discussed the topic with Minister of National Development Planning, Bambang Brodjonegoro.
In the margins of the meetings, the Government of Indonesia invited the Annual Meetings participants to enjoy the beauty of Indonesian arts, culture, and culinary, during the “Host Government Reception” (12/10). The reception was colored by beautiful performances which took place in the Garuda Wisnu Kencana, one of Indonesia’s tallest statue.
