Minister Blok visits Indonesia
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Stef Blok will visit Indonesia on Tuesday 3 and Wednesday 4 July 2018. He speaks in Jakarta with his Indonesian counterpart Mrs. Retno Marsudi about a wide range of subjects.
Minister Blok and Minister Marsudi will discuss the cooperation between the Netherlands and Indonesia in the field of counterterrorism, cyber and human rights. They will also discuss political issues that are part of the UN Security Council in which the Netherlands have a seat now. Indonesia will have a seat in the Security Council from 2019.
‘Our shared past creates close ties’, says Blok. ‘Our cooperation covers almost all areas of our foreign policy.’ In addition to the capital, the Minister also travels to Surabaya, where he visits a church that recently has been hit by a terrorist attack. Blok: ‘As partners, the Netherlands and Indonesia stand side by side in the fight against terrorism. We want to take radicalization at the roots together.’
Today, Minister Blok invited several Dutch people with an Indonesian background to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands to exchange experiences about their relationship with the country and to speak about the opportunities for cooperation. Blok: ‘In addition to our history, the cultures of the Netherlands an Indonesia are also intertwined. Like many others in the Netherlands, the people with whom I speak today feel connected to Indonesia. This also applies to my own family.
