Orange is the New Green in Jakarta
Growing social and environmental issues in Southeast Asia call for innovative entrepreneurial solutions. Therefore, the Dutch Government has initiated the Orange ASEAN Factory: an intense three-week gathering of talented young professionals, entrepreneurs and students, designing solutions for sustainability challenges in the ASEAN region. On Friday 27 October 2017 the participants will present their findings in Jakarta.

What particular challenges have the participants addressed, and for whom? Six established multinationals (Amcor, AkzoNobel, DSM, FrisianFlag, Royal Haskoning DHV and Unilever) provided the teams with sustainability issues that they are grappling with. This year’s business cases revolve around reducing plastic waste, creating digital solutions for water problems, and fostering sustainable farming. During the final presentations the participants will highlight both their findings and the process leading up to the solutions. It will be very exciting to see what this group of young talents has achieved in a time span of only three weeks. After the pitches, there are interactive poster presentations in which interested invitees can provide the teams with input.
The Orange ASEAN Factory in Jakarta is the fifth edition of the event, following the successful formula of previous editions in Bangkok (twice in 2016), Kuala Lumpur (2016) and Singapore (2017). The participants of this Factory come from Indonesia, other ASEAN countries and the Netherlands. The next orange ASEAN Factory will be held in 2018, with Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam as possible hosts.
Rob Swartbol (Netherlands Ambassador to Indonesia and Permanent Representative to ASEAN) emphasizes the importance of the event: "Over the next decades, the ASEAN region will have to cope with a number of pressing sustainability issues, so smart solutions are required more than ever. The Orange ASEAN Factory is an excellent opportunity for companies to contribute to sustainable development. I believe this group of young talents is well-equipped to shape our future in a sustainable way."
