Reburial Polish soldiers in Amsterdam
The courageous Polish lieutenant Maciej Socharski and sergeant Henryk Sikorski were buried with military honour yesterday in Amsterdam. The two were killed when their plane was shot down by the Luftwaffe over the IJsselmeer lake, the Netherlands, on 9 May 1941.
Also, the identity of another polish soldier, sergeant Stanisław Pisarski, has recently been finally established and his name will be added to his gravestone. At the time Pisarski was anonymously buried.
The reburial ceremony in Amsterdam was attended by Deputy Minister for Culture, Magdalena Gawin, military officials, representatives of veteran organisations, and delegates from the Poland’s Institute of National Remembrance. Polish soldiers fired gun salutes to pay their respects to these brave compatriots who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
