King's Day

On King's Day – 27 April – Dutch people celebrate the birthday of King Willem-Alexander with parties and street markets.

If 27 April falls on a Sunday, King's Day is celebrated one day earlier. The King and other members of the Royal Family join members of the public for the celebrations in a different municipality each year. For more information, see the Royal House website.

Street market

Many people dress in orange on King's Day. Unregulated markets are held on the street and in parks, where people can sell items they no longer want. They also make music, or sell food. In Utrecht, the street market starts the night before King's Day.
